Carla came to Legacy with a double major in Bible and Elementary Education from Northwestern University. She continued her education at St. Mary’s University where she earned her Master’s in Teaching and Learning. In 2014 Carla was named the recipient of an LPA “Grant for Teachers Needs” to install a wireless weather station for her 5th grade science curriculum! Each October she accompanies Legacy 5th graders on a 3 day trip to Forest Springs for hands-on learning experiences.

Carla enjoys spending time with her husband and their two children. They enjoy boating, waterskiing, biking, and playing sports.

“I believe God called me into education. My prayer is that each student in my class understands the love of God and grows in their walk with Him, as we learn together throughout the year.”

Janelle’s degrees in Organizational Communication and Business Administration from UWEC and Bethel University served her well within Human Resource roles at Connexus Energy, Rockwell Automation, and United Health Group before joining the Business Office staff at LCA in 2015. 

Mom to LCA graduate Drew, and current students Derek, and Avery, Janelle and her husband Jeremiah feel they are truly creating a Legacy in their children by enrolling them at LCA. Their family loves the LCA Community and feel so blessed to be a part of it.

Mr. Andy Anderson holds a Bachelor of Science in Visual Art Education K-12 with a Bible Major from University of Northwestern-St. Paul and a Masters in Education from College of St. Catherine. Mr. Anderson spent 11 years sharing his art passion with high school and college students as a teacher and adjunct professor in Nevada. His work there earned him ‘Teacher of the Year’ recognition from Humboldt County School District, Winnemucca, NV in 2014. This will be Mr. Anderson’s 8th year teaching art at Legacy, as well as leading the Visual Arts Affinity Group and helping host the Student Art Show each spring.

Mr. Anderson shares that one of his favorite Bible verses is Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” “I love this passage because it reminds me that God is creative – and in that creativity, made us. We are His handiwork’ or craft. As an artist, this is a powerful thought that is easy to relate to. And to consider God crafted us with a plan to do His good work through us, even long before we were born – well, that is really an incredible design. I certainly hope I live each day to do those ‘good works’ He has prepared for me to do.”

“LCA is special to me because, from its core, this school desires to stand on God’s word and that flows out into all that happens here. It is special to me because I have the privilege to teach the subjects I love while inspiring and investing in my students in a way that deepens their walk with God.”

Kendra joined the Legacy staff in 2016 alongside her husband, Andy Anderson. The Anderson’s relocated from Nevada with their 3 boys to accept teaching positions at LCA.  Kendra shares that Proverbs 16:1-9 have been impactful verses during their journey.

“These verses have been foundational as my family and I have trusted the Lord in guiding our every step, our various moves, and each transition. He led us to Nevada in 2005 and in April of 2016, His calling us back to Minnesota, to teach at Legacy Christian Academy, was abundantly clear. There were numerous tests and many faith steps but His faithfulness proved greater than each one of those tests and we are blessed beyond measure in following His calling for our family! Being at Legacy, I now have a ‘double privilege’ as I am a daily part of my boys’ life at school, but also have the awesome responsibility and joy in teaching PreK! I love the eagerness and simple delight my students display as they grow and learn new things in all areas–academically, emotionally, and spiritually,”

Kendra holds a BS in Christian education from the University of Northwestern-St. Paul and spent three years teaching PreK at Berean Baptist Education Center along with various substitute teaching positions while raising her boys. With her wealth of PreK experience, she will lead the LCA PreK team as the PreK Coordinator. She is excited to partner with parents as their child begins his/her educational journey at Legacy and looks forward to working with the PreK team as they collectively seek to enhance student learning and experiences even more at LCA!

Ashley holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Psychology from Metropolitan State University. After graduating she worked in ministry before choosing to stay home with her young children.

Ashley and her husband, Dustin, have three children all whom attend Legacy. Ashley enjoys the opportunity to be a part of the amazing community at Legacy and to serve the students and families in the lunch room and cafe.

Desiree is excited to step into the K-4 Innovation & Technology Teacher role with a wealth of experience. With two degrees in Mathematics/Math Education and Bible from the University of Northwestern – St Paul and a Masters of Arts in Teaching – Mathematics from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, Desiree has applied her degrees to her career as a math teacher at Spring Lake Park High School, an adjunct professor of Math and Business at the University of Northwestern, and as an AI Trainer for Scale AI. While working in the Spring Lake Park district, Desiree helped develop and implement one-to-one technology, a math framework, and competency-based innovation and personalized learning frameworks for Spring Lake Park schools. 

In her free time, Desiree, her husband Matt and their four children love adventuring all over the Twin Cities at lakes, parks, sporting events, and museums.

Through our ongoing partnership with the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Mitchell Anderson brings a wealth of experience to Legacy Christian Academy, overseeing our safety, security, and emergency management programs. He holds an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement from Rasmussen University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Justice Studies from Grand Canyon University. In addition to his role at Legacy, Mitchell serves in the Sheriff’s Office as a member of both the Marine Unit and the Honor Guard.

Before beginning his law enforcement career, Mitchell dedicated twelve years to the U.S. Navy. He spent nine of those years in the Nuclear Propulsion Program aboard aircraft carriers and three years as a Navy Recruiter in Blaine. He continues to serve in the Navy Reserves, where he works on maintaining and upgrading ballistic submarines and surface ships in the Pacific Northwest.

At Legacy Christian Academy, Mitchell also teaches a Criminal Justice & Public Safety elective course in the Middle School and volunteers as an assistant baseball coach. In his personal time, he enjoys being with his wife, two children, and three dogs. He also loves traveling, outdoor activities, solving Rubik’s Cubes, playing guitar, and watching movie trailers.

Sharon Arnold has a BA in Biology and Spanish from Luther College and master’s degrees in Biological Sciences and Science Education from the University of Minnesota and Montana State University respectively. After teaching 7-8th grade science in Forest Lake and Roseville as part of their Spanish Immersion programs, she is excited to move up to the high school level and teach in such a positive and faith-filled community.

Sharon is an avid athlete who races in triathlons and marathons, and she enjoys anything active in nature. She got married in August and loves having an adventure partner for life!

Robert Lynn is a Bethel University graduate with BA degrees in Language Arts, Communications, and Media Communications. After spending 24 years on staff in multiple roles including teacher, coach, Middle and Upper School Principal and Head of School at New Life Academy, Lynn brings a philosophy of education that is established on a simple foundation that education is the most important and valuable opportunity for students to build a lasting personal relationship with Jesus and a strong Christian worldview. He is excited about taking the next step in his Christian education career with the team here at Legacy.

Lynn and his wife Kendra are active members of Twin Cities Church. They have 3 children, 4 dogs, 1 cat and a bird! As a family, they have future aspirations to own and operate an animal care facility.

Matthew joined the staff at Legacy in 2020 teaching 5th and 6th grade Social Studies and Bible, coaching baseball, and supervising Middle School Student Council. His undergraduate degree is in Social Studies Education and History from Northwestern University – St. Paul.

Every year he looks forward to sharing his faith in the classroom and teaching from a biblical worldview.

Purpose Statement: “I love working with students. I’m incredibly excited to have the opportunity to influence students’ lives by not only teaching them about social studies and the Bible but also about their faith and life in general.”

Bio

After graduating from Bethel University with a degree in elementary and science education, Sara went on to teach science at Roseville Area Middle School. While teaching there, she was involved in many extracurricular activities including Student Council, student vs. staff tournaments, and coaching a variety of sports including tennis, soccer, fastpitch, track and basketball. She loved taking students on learning adventures outside of school and ventured as far as Itasca State Park and Yellowstone National Park with groups of students. Sara then went on to teach Elementary Science Methods courses as an adjunct professor at Bethel University. She took a break from the formal classroom, teaching full time through homeschooling instead. Now she is excited to have the unique opportunity to teach her own boys, as well as all of the other amazing students at Legacy this year.

Sara loves being outdoors and doing anything active! Sports, hiking, running and exploring God’s amazing creation with her family are some of her favorite hobbies. She and her husband have 4 amazing boys, who all love to go traveling and exploring God’s creation together!

Sara is excited to come to Legacy and use the gifts God has given her: The Lord has made it very evident that Legacy is exactly where he wants me right now, and I’m excited to teach in a place where all glory and honor can be given to Him.

Darla Behrens is no stranger to Legacy Christian Academy. She taught math and science from 1989-2011 in our classrooms. With a BS in Chemical Engineering/Education from the University of Minnesota, Darla is well equipped to continue that teaching here after following God’s call away for the past 7 years. Darla says being back feels like coming home and she is looking forward to getting to know a new generation of students, parents, and even a few staff.

“I believe that God has uniquely gifted me to teach. I get such a sense of personal satisfaction when I see students’ “light bulbs” go on and see their entire demeanor change to delight when they experience success. I can only credit the Spirit for the inspirations that have popped in my mind over the years to find one more way, after many attempts, to explain a topic/phenomenon that brings a student over that wall of understanding.”

Darla has two grown daughters and is grandma to four grandchildren. It is a delight seeing them grow and develop from the grandma perspective: “I have the time to just observe these amazing creations of God as they change so very quickly. It “wows” my mind how He puts it all together.”

Nathan earned his degree in Elementary Education and Bible from the University of Northwestern – St. Paul. During that time he was the Director of Boys Basketball for Crossfire Youth Sports and was also on the Women’s Basketball coaching staff at UNW. After teaching 4th grade for 5 years in the Mound View School District, Nathan felt called to Athletic Administration. This led him to his role at Legacy as the Athletic Director and Boys Basketball Coach for the last five years. 

Nathan’s purpose statement is summed up in these words, “I lead to help others passionately pursue their best selves, commit to character and provide a sense of belonging in a Christ-centered environment.” I am committed to helping students and coaches become better leaders for their families, communities and churches. 

Nathan and his wife Krista have been married for 9 years and have 5 children.

Krista earned her degree in Elementary Education from North Central University. Prior to joining the Legacy staff she taught at Bethesda Christian School in Fort Worth TX, Maranatha Christian Academy here in MN, and lived in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Africa for a year doing missions work.

She was discipled and trained in the ways of the Lord as a young child and loves giving back. She desires for her students and all those who God brings into her life to know that they are seen and loved by our Abba Father!

Nate is a 2015 Bethel University graduate with a degree in elementary education and is now working on his masters from St. Mary’s University in Winona. As the Middle School Math Teacher, Nate enjoys inspiring students to develop the math skills, self-confidence, and grit required to succeed in school in the coming years. 

Prior to teaching at LCA, Nate taught 4th grade in Wayzata and 5th grade in North St. Paul. Although he taught in public schools and liked it, he loves being somewhere that he can talk about the love of Jesus and teach youth about Him. 

Nate loves basketball and coaches JV during winter as well as oversees Middle School Student Council. He also proudly holds a world record for catching goldfish in his mouth. Sounds like the start of a good math word problem!

Alec is thrilled to join the Legacy team as the Strength and Conditioning Teacher and Coach for middle school, high school, and our athletes. He graduated with honors from Cornell College with a degree in Kinesiology. He was awarded the 2024 Ray and Margaret Cook Award for Outstanding Student in Exercise Science Award and the Paul Maaske Scholar Athlete Award for his collegiate basketball career. Alec shares, “As I abide in Christ myself, I coach and teach with excellence and enthusiasm in a way that honors the Lord and points students to abiding in Christ themselves.” Alec and his wife Kaiya (married this summer!) live in Minneapolis and attend Redemption Church.

Patti is a graduate of Mid-America Nazarene University with a BA in Education followed by an MA in Biblical Counseling from Bible and Trinity Theological Seminary. From 1993 to the Spring of 2018, she had been teaching Bible and History to LCA 5th and 6th grade students.  Patti accepted the 4th grade teaching position for the 218-19 school year and is currently teaching 2nd grade.

Patti says she has always been energized by student’s eagerness to learn and explore new skills and experiences at the middle school level.  She sees that same energy in the younger students. They must be energized by her as well as Patti has been honored twice by receiving the National Teacher’s Who’s Who Award.

“Here at LCA students have the opportunity to see the value of education through the perspective of what it means to honor God as they develop academically, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We work on providing a community of family that walk alongside each other extending God’s grace as we grow in God’s truth and in times when we need to be held accountable.”

Jayme joined our staff in 2016 with a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts from Bethel University. She has a passion for teaching art to children in adventurous and new ways! She enjoys the opportunity to use her spiritual gifts in teaching the children about art and technology. In the art classroom, she loves to get the students critically thinking about what it means to be a Christian Artist and how can we be Christian Artists with each project we make.

Along with teaching, her other passions include her personal studio art practice, various science fiction genres, coaching the middle school girls fastpitch softball team and drinking coffee.

“Legacy Christian Academy is special to me because I get to openly teach students about our creative and awesome God. It allows my relationships with the students to grow to a more spiritual level by being able to answer questions about their faith and encourage them in their walk with Jesus Christ. It is also special because of the amazing relationships I get to have with my colleagues by incorporating prayer and support for each other as a community.“

Kaitlin is no stranger to Legacy with two children attending LCA and a frequent attendee at LCA Boys’ soccer games coached by her husband, Jason Budish. She earned a double major in English education and Christian studies from Crown College and previously taught at St. John’s Lutheran School in Chaska, MN.

Kaitlin is excited to step into her role here at LCA as the new Middle School English Teacher. Legacy has meant the world to her extended family for numerous years, and she couldn’t be more excited to join the staff and continue God’s work for future generations. She believes her purpose as a teacher is to show the love of Christ to each student through her instruction and personal relationships. Through this, Kaitlin is able to provide a stable, loving, and joy-filled environment that pushes students to grow in their reading, writing, and speaking abilities.

In her spare time, Kaitlin loves to travel, watch documentaries, and drink an unhealthy amount of Starbucks coffee. She has also been a high school dance team coach for the last 8 years and is a proud recipient of two state dance team tournament medals. Kaitlin is excited to continue her role as the Middle School English Teacher.

“My mother always said I would miss my calling if I didn’t work with kids!” Sharon earned a BA in Business Management before earning her MA in Clinical Psychology from St. Mary’s University, where she  did post-graduate work in Family and Marriage Therapy. Sharon has over  30 years of experience counseling children, adolescents and their families, 5 years as an adjunct professor teaching psychology at the University of Northwestern, and 15 years providing school counseling in Catholic and private Christian schools. 

“My mission statement  is – To bring Christ’s compassionate presence to all I meet – offering hope, encouragement, healing, and a fresh perspective on  life’s journey – all for the sake of Christ.”

Romans 5:6-8  is one of my favorite passages because it talks about God showing up at just the right time (which is when we’re helpless), and giving us undeserved love! “At just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for an upright person….but God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”

Besides sharing time with family and friends, you will find Sharon raising  German Shepherds, gardening, enjoying the great outdoors, spending time in Iowa, and exploring all things South Korea!

Kris started her teaching career in 1993 in inner-city Houston TX schools after receiving a degree in Elementary Education from Mankato State University. She came back home to MN to teach in Mounds View ISD for a few years before starting a family and becoming a stay-at-home-mom to 4 children.

She was excited to return to the classroom in 2010 at McKinley Elementary. At McKinley, she taught kindergarten, first, and second grades. Kris was chosen to help open Sunrise Elementary in Blaine, where she has been a 2nd grade teacher for 4 years.

Kris loves spending time with her family at their lake cabin, cooking, decorating, and gardening. “I feel so blessed and excited to be a part of the Legacy team and community! I’m super excited to be able to be able to pray with my students! The first time I walked in the doors, I realized this was a special place and the place God had called me.”

Scott and his wife Tracy have been married for 24 years, and have been incredibly blessed to have four children journey through Legacy.  They have been involved in the school community since 2002, making their home in Andover.  Scott and Tracy run a software engineering consultancy in Anoka.

Lynda’s roots at Legacy are deeply rooted and the families that meet her through PreK and the admissions process immediately feel her passion for what happens within our walls. First as a student herself, then a parent, then an employee in 2005, Lynda has experiences that speak to almost every situation.

Under Lynda’s leadership the PreK program at Legacy has been voted “Best Preschool in Anoka County” for four out of the last five years. In 2014, Lynda and her colleague Kristin Zelin, were awarded a Grant for Teachers Needs from the Legacy Parent Association which allowed the PreK classroom to get an amazing new playhouse built in large part by Lynda’s husband Mark, also an MCCS/LCA graduate! In 2016, the Grant for Teachers Needs Program also awarded Lynda a “Buddy Bench” for the playground so all students have a chance to feel loved and included.

“I work at Legacy because I love God and I love people. As a teacher, I knew my students would not remember everything I taught them, but I wanted them to remember how I made them feel – loved! As PreK Director, I still feel that way. I always tell the families of my students that once they are a part of my program, they are always a part of my heart. As an Admissions Director, I want people to see that Legacy is different, that we are a family who truly love each other and want to honor God in all that we do. I want to invest time building relationships with people as we build the Legacy community – and God’s kingdom.

Mary holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education with a Minor in Biblical Studies from the University of Northwestern, St. Paul. She also has her Master of Arts in Music Education with a choral emphasis from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul. Prior to joining the Legacy staff, she taught for several years at Big Lake High School, St. Francis High School, and St. Louis Park Schools.

Mary finds teaching music, especially singing, so very rewarding! In addition to directing Legacy’s Choir program, Mary teaches middle school Ukes & Keys and PSEO Intro to Music as an UNW Adjunct Professor. She loves celebrating students’ musical experiences with them and celebrating their successes! It is her desire to model Christ’s love and kindness to those with whom her path crosses and to maximize the gifts God has given her. 

Mary has three adult daughters: Jennifer, Jessica, and Grace.

Ann studied elementary education at the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, and received her graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of St. Catherine’s. She spent several years as the Inquiry Teacher and Math Specialist in Anoka-Hennepin School District as well as the middle school math teacher at Legacy. 

Ann loves mathematics. She is looking forward to working with students of all grade levels in her role as K-8 Math Intervention. With strategies like using base ten and sub-base five, students build a strong visualization of number quantity. Investigations in number operation help students to see “the how” behind the solutions. In addition to partnering with students to gain math confidence, Ann loves developing strong relationships with students to support their faith journey. 

Ann and her husband, Brady, live in Ham Lake and have been blessed with 5 kids. 

I see proof of Jeremiah 29:11 in my life every minute of every day. The Lord entrusted Brady and me with three, one pound miracles who, by the grace of God, survived here on earth. This journey has taught me about special needs caregiving, and how His plan for our lives is sometimes one we never imagined for ourselves. This being said, we have experienced more miracles, purpose and provisions than we ever thought possible.

Rebecca is no stranger to Legacy as a longstanding sub for our middle school and will now join the team as our 6th Grade Math and Science Teacher. Rebecca graduated from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Applied and Computational Mathematics with an emphasis in Statistics and Actuarial Science. With her experience in mathematics and science, Rebecca shares, “I love teaching God’s greatest gifts, kids, and helping them discover who they were meant to be, perfect and loved by God. I have a passion for helping kids discover how math and science can apply to their own lives and see the correlation between God’s perfect creation and themselves, and the world around them.” Rebecca and her husband have two children that attend Legacy.

Jen comes to Legacy with her undergraduate degree in elementary education from Bethel University, a masters in education from Hamline University, and a masters in elementary literacy from Concordia University. She also worked in the Spring Lake Park School District for 25 years in various roles including teaching 3rd grade and kindergarten each for 10 years, as a Title I intervention teacher, and as a 2nd grade teacher. 

Jen is no stranger to LCA as she subbed consistently in Spring of 2022, taught 3rd grade last year, and has two daughters that have attended school here as well. Lauren is a recent proud alumni and Claire is an incoming freshman. Now, Jen will teach PreK and she is excited to help students become the best person they can be. She is also passionate about helping students find their joy in the learning process and feels blessed to be a part of that journey.

Cheryl earned a double major in Elementary Education and K-6 Physical Education from Bethel University where she met her husband, Mike. They were married in 1984 and she began teaching at Legacy, then MCCS. Cheryl continued her education, earning a Master’s in Education from St. Mary’s University.

Her two daughters, Casey and Courtney are also PE teachers and they enjoy collaborating and staying current. She and Mike stay active running, biking, and attending athletic events but their newest thrill is being grandparents to Sylvia and Callum.

“With God’s help, each day I desire to instruct and inspire students to find their identity in Christ first and foremost … and then discover their abilities and how those talents can give them purpose and opportunities here at Legacy. It is rewarding to see students excel and find their place in this community.”

Bailee is so excited to join the Legacy family as the Lunch/Recess & Aftercare Coordinator. She says, “God led my husband and I to look into enrolling our oldest child, Easton into Legacy. We both were blown away and felt the sense of family/community on our tour. There was such joy radiating from the staff and I was drawn to the environment.” She knew she wanted to work here. 

Prior to her new role, Bailee worked for the YMCA for ten years in various positions within childcare. She was also the Summer Power Middle School Director. Bailee has also worked at the Mike Orn State Farm and the Learn & Grow Daycare Center. 

It brings her heart so much joy to serve children and being a shepherd in their journey is a gift for Bailee. She wants each child she works with to know Jesus’ love and be able to see the joy in every part of life. Because of her role, Bailee will be able to get to know each child individually, walking to and from lunch or recess or in the aftercare program. 

Bailee and her husband, Calvin, have two children, Easton, who will be in Kindergarten this year, and their daughter, Scottie Lu.

Tirzah has been sharing her love of music with LCA students since 1988! She holds a BS in Vocal & Classroom Music Education from the University of Northwestern St. Paul and has a passion to serve God through the musical talents He has gifted her with.

“At LCA, I desire to create an environment that encourages students to understand, appreciate, create, and perform music as an expression of worship to God.”

Tirzah, a self proclaimed “Packer” fan and puppy lover, enjoys spending time with her three dogs and two children. Tirzah and her husband also lead worship together at their church and love spending time outdoors enjoying God’s creation.

Alumni Gracie is thrilled to be back home after graduating from Legacy in 2018 and joining the LCA faculty as a 3rd Grade Teacher. She graduated from Crown College with a degree in elementary education and a minor in science. 

For Gracie, coming back to Legacy to teach was my dream. She never thought that she would actually get the opportunity to work at the school that she loved. The atmosphere at Legacy is undeniably Christ-centered and that is what makes her excited to be a part of the team every single day. Gracie is thrilled to pursue her passion of working with children while also discipling the hearts of each student. 

Gracie also celebrated her wedding this summer!

An Elementary Education Crown College graduate and teacher at Heritage Christian Academy for 6 years, Janaya traded in her wings (HCA Eagles) for a mane and became a Lion in 2020, joining the Legacy staff as a First Grade Teacher and now a PreK teacher.

Janaya loves to bring imagination and creativity into her Pr K classroom and one of her greatest passions is sharing the love of Christ with her students! She is excited to be  involved with the Legacy community and be a part of such a genuine and creative team.

Janaya and her husband David have a fur baby named Russell and love spending time with their family. She is an avid traveler and a self-described Disney fanatic!

I love to use creativity and imagination to ignite my students’ love for learning! My driving passion is the desire to have every student that enters my classroom know how deeply loved they are by Jesus! Sue received her undergraduate degree from UW Stout and went on to attain a Master’s in Education from St. Mary’s.  

Since her hire in 1997 Sue has worn multiple hats: teaching, supporting, and now advancing the mission of our school. As both a parent and an employee, Sue has the unique ability to see our school and its mission from multiple perspectives.

“I believe in the mission of this school and the absolute need for it in our society today. I am so grateful God has blessed me with this job … the opportunity to share my passion for LCA with others, and help build a connected community here.”

Kristina holds a business management degree from St. Cloud State University and is the Data Manager and manages FACTS Demographics . Prior to her time at Legacy, Kristina was a Branch Manager for TCF Bank.

As an alumni and now a parent of LCA students, Kristina has experienced firsthand the life-changing impact Legacy has on students and she is excited to be a part of that as guests and students enter the front doors of the school. 

Kristina has been married to her high school sweetheart (fellow LCA alumni), Daniel, since 2013. They have five amazing children: Jack, Hudson, Maci, Colt, and Myla.

Alex earned his elementary education K-6 degree from North Central University and has since then been a 4th grade teacher at Parnassus Preparatory School and a building substitute teacher at Garden City Elementary in the Osseo School District. Here at Legacy, Alex is a 4th Grade Teacher.

Alex and his wife Katie are raising two sons, Grayson and Roman.

When thinking about his role at Legacy, Alex explains, “I have always believed that as a teacher it is my responsibility to not only teach core subjects, but also life skills and values to the students that walk through my classroom. Teaching character traits like responsibility, respect, cooperation and perseverance have always been important to me, and I have always done my best to demonstrate in my classroom. Now getting to also demonstrate the most important values in my faith and having a relationship with Jesus in my classroom is what really made me say yes to LCA.”

Talisha joined the Legacy staff in 2020, just in time to guide our school through the ever-changing environment of COVID-19. A Registered Nurse since 2006, Talisha has always had a heart to help others. Her spiritual gifts of hospitality and giving make her a perfect fit for Legacy’s health office.

“LCA has made a life-changing impact on not just my children’s lives, but our entire family.  When the opportunity came available to join the amazing team at LCA it was really a dream come true.  It is a unique opportunity to use my skills as a nurse and work in a Christ-centered environment.  My husband Jason and I live in Andover with our 3 children, 2 cats, and a puppy!  My favorite spot on the weekends is at my family’s cabin in WI, where we enjoy the lake, bonfires, and relaxing!”

Meckenna Holman is a proud Bethel University graduate who received a degree in Communication Arts & Literature 5-12 (English Education) and a minor in Theatre. Meckenna taught high school English at both Blaine High School, and, more recently, Legacy Christian Academy. She has since shifted out of the classroom into the role of Marketing and Communications Coordinator at LCA. She is also in the process of pursuing a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Concordia University in St. Paul.

Meckenna and her husband Dakota attend Renovation Church in Blaine and spend their free time pursuing many life-giving hobbies including roasting their own coffee, gardening, biking, canoeing, and camping. Because of their love for nature and the outdoors, Meckenna and Dakota are most comfortable in a national park or forest, soaking in the beauty of Christ and His creation.

Meckenna feels called to write the story of Legacy. God has done so much, and she is excited to share that story with others.

Janna holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education with Middle School Endorsements in Math, Social Studies, and ELA from University of Sioux Falls.

As an avid traveler, visiting all 50 states and 17 countries, Mrs. Hub has aspirations to travel to Norway.  In addition to travel, Janna and her husband, Adam, enjoy running, hiking, board games, and spending time with friends and family.  Janna can also be found working on projects around their house and spending time in the garage.  

“Being open and willing to follow God’s leading – I don’t know what that looks like, but I know it will continue to be an adventure.” Since writing this during her first year at Legacy in 2016, Mrs. Hub has transitioned from teaching math to launching Legacy’s Innovation Program and overseeing the FACTS SIS software.

“I have come to appreciate the community that exists amongst the staff, with the families, and amongst the students, that is grounded in Christ.  It is my privilege to have the opportunity to walk with students as they discover who God has created them to be.”

Although Allen aspires to be the Governor of Minnesota, for now he is excited to be a middle school social studies teacher at Legacy! Before joining the Legacy community, he taught at Robbinsdale Middle School for three years and at Discovery Charter School for a year. He holds two undergraduate degrees from the University of Northwestern – St Paul in history and biblical studies and a masters in teaching from Bethel University. Allen is married to his wife, Olivia, and  is a fourth generation teacher, which inspires him to continue the family legacy of encouraging and teaching others. He is thankful for the opportunity to share his passion for history and geography alongside his faith in Christ with Legacy students.

Toni was born and raised in northern Minnesota, attended the U of M Carlson School of Business. She is happily married to her husband David of 37 years and has 2 children, Luke (28) & Jillian (26). Both attended Legacy/Meadow Creek PreK-12 grade. After serving in administration for over 20 years, she now enjoys managing the LCA Cafe and serving parents, students, teachers, and staff a cup of their favorite Java!

Born and raised in Indiana, Mindy holds an Elementary Education degree from Ball State University. She brings over 25 years of experience leading early learners in school, daycare and church environments to Legacy this fall. She has a passion for kids, sharing that her goal is, “to encourage and challenge children to explore and learn so they can impact others positively.” She is excited to play a role in the development of students and see them reach their full potential in every stage of life.

Mindy is no stranger to Legacy. Her husband of 24 years, Jeremy, is an MCCS graduate as are her two daughters, Hannah ‘19 and Emma ‘21.  Mindy is excited to get to know Legacy families better and eagerly said YES to a position at Legacy to share God’s love for students as she has experienced first-hand through her daughters interactions with faculty and staff.

Ellen holds a bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Benedict in Elementary Education. Ellen has been a member of the LCA community for many years as a parent, but joins us now in 2021 as a PreK teacher. Previously, Ellen was a preschool teacher and Director and Lord of Life Church/School in Ramsey. Ellen states, “I teach young children with love, humor, and compassion.  I love teaching because I get to be with little humans and fill their hearts with Jesus and their minds with new ideas.” In her new role as a 5-Day PreK Teacher, she is most excited to take her students to chapel on Wednesdays and have more time to know students’ and their families better. 

Ellen and her  husband Kevin, have two sons Sam and Jack and two dogs Clover and Teddi. She has a heart for foster dogs and hopes to safely incorporate that into her teaching.

Cindy graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, with a BA degree in art, with a minor in Spanish “once upon a time, a long time ago” as she would like to say. Most of her life she has had an emphasis on music. From singing in choirs, outreach teams, worship teams, and years of band involvement.

Cindy’s teaching experience began with home-schooling her four children. During that time, she also taught art and music at various home-school co-ops. She then taught music, art and Spanish for seven years at private Christian schools.

Following those years, Cindy became a toddler teacher at a day care center and offered after-school art classes at elementary schools in the area.. She also became a chaplain. Working with children is a great privilege and a blessing to Cindy. She feels strongly that these young

ones are God’s dear ones. She endeavors to care for them gently, and values their unique gifting, while presenting an introduction to music and Godly songs. 

Cindy and her husband, Mark, have four grown children and three grandchildren, who are the light of her life.

Todd attended Bethel University for both his undergraduate teaching degree and his Master’s in Divinity. Todd has also completed a seminary program in Marriage and Family Therapy. He previously served in Pastoral ministry for 15 years at Redeemer Covenant Church and 5 years as School Chaplain and Bible Teacher at Chapel Hill Academy.

Todd is excited to be a part of a PreK-12 Christian Education community in the northwest suburbs of the Twin Cities sharing, “I love the mission and vision of Legacy and the commitment to serve students and families in an effort to better enable them to live into their call as image-bearers and messengers of God in all aspects of life.” He aspires to continue serving the local church in various capacities and providing care and counsel to individuals, couples, and families as they go through transitions and times of desired growth.

Todd and his wife Charity have five children: Solomon, Miriam, Silas, Judah, and Justus. He loves sports, road trips, geocaching, food, and good conversations

Amy earned her BA in Psychology from Azusa Pacific University, followed by her MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Saint Mary’s University of MN, and most recently earned her Graduate Certificate in School Counseling from MN State Moorhead. She completed her school counseling internship at Legacy this past spring and is thrilled to be joining Legacy this year as a School Counselor. She was a foster parent for 6 years and has five adopted sons.

Scott earned a Chemistry (ACS) degree from South Carolina State University and a Masters Degree in Chemistry with a minor in Secondary Education from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Scott says he  enjoys teaching challenging aspects of science with his students so they can gain a better understanding of the world around them. He aims for students to explore science in a hands-on interactive way that encourages their ownership of their learning with the goal of students continuing to build upon the self-worth of who they are in Christ. 

Scott and his wife Jessica have three amazing children: Elliott, Asher, and Elisa. In their spare time as a family they like to spend time outside and read! In addition, Scott is a professed Green Bay Packer fan. 

Before coming to Legacy, Scott worked at Lakeview Christian Academy in Duluth as a Math and Science Teacher from 2015-2022. Last year he worked as an Upper School Science Teacher at Mounds Park Academy. 

Scott says, “I am excited for the opportunity to be a part of this community here at LCA that not only allows me to teach what I am passionate about but also for the blessing to teach it from a Christian perspective. I am also looking forward to working at a place where my own kids can attend and learn in a Christ centered environment.”

Natalie is a familiar face here at Legacy as both a parent and teacher. Natalie originally double majored with a BS in psychology and education at Iowa State University

Natalie and her husband, Nate, have five children, two girls and three boys, and in her freetime, Natalie enjoys playing games, reading, doing calligraphy, traveling with her family, volunteering at her church, and playing volleyball.

Just being inside the Legacy building brings me joy. I love being surrounded by a staff that supports one another in everyday journeys, and sincerely prays for each other. I also believe God has created me to be in the classroom and around students. I love educating children, building relationships, and watching them become their best. Overall, I believe in what Legacy stands for, and love being a part of it.

Sarah obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology and health from St. Cloud State University and studied counseling and student personnel at Minnesota State University Mankato before finding a home in Christian education. The calling to develop untapped talents has been strong at Legacy. Since stepping in as Assistant Athletic Director in 2015, Sarah has held roles in athletics, marketing, communication, and administration. Sarah currently serves LCA as the Director of Operations where she enjoys working with amazing individuals in a variety of departments.

Sarah enjoys being active with her family, spending time at the lake and on the trails. She shares her love of an active lifestyle with her husband and children.

Courtney attended the University of Minnesota Duluth for her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and earned her graduate degree in Educational Technology from Concordia University. She began her teaching career in the Spring Lake Park School district in various roles, including 1st grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, and academic specialist. Courtney felt called to join Legacy after 7 years at Bethel University as an instructional designer.

Courtney loves being in the classroom and has a heart for working with elementary students. It excites her to be able to share the goodness of God with her students and the LCA community. She believes her purpose is to help students utilize their unique God-given talents to reach their full potential and to further His kingdom. 

Courtney’s life verse is:

Todd comes to Legacy with both an AAS in laser electric optics technology from Central Carolina Community College and a BA in computer science from St. Thomas University. With his experience, Todd will lead Legacy’s Robotics Team as the head coach and teach the high school robotics class as well. 

In addition to his education, Todd has been a mentor for the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) for 10 years and has experience as a Lead Mentor for multiple teams. He also volunteers at MN robotics regional events and functions as a control system advisor. He has even started a non-profit organization called Jumpstart Initiative which focuses on offseason training for robotics teams, mentorship training, and networking opportunities and career development. 

Todd is excited to share his knowledge and passion for technology with LCA students!  Giving students opportunities with technology and life skills.

Tiffany joined the Legacy staff for the 2018 school year after several years at Heritage Christian Academy and a short stint in public education in Wayzata Public Schools. Tiffany also graduated from Concordia University-St. Paul with a Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Literacy and a MN K-12 Reading Endorsement in 2023. She found her heart to be best suited for Christian education stating the following:

“I believe Christian educators have the unique privilege and responsibility of teaching the gospel and Christian character to young people while challenging them to learn academics with excellence.  I am so thankful that God led me to Legacy where I can share the love of Jesus with my students!”  

Tiffany is a diehard Minnesota Lynx fan and loves Maya Moore! She also loves spending time with family and friends, reading for fun, and studying God’s word with her small group.

Kristin ‘97 and her husband are both proud alumni, and she is thankful to be home once again. Kristin taught at Legacy before starting a family and has since been active in the homeschool community teaching in various capacities for over 15 years. Her original degree was from Bethel University in Language Arts 7-12, and Kristin is excited to join the middle school team at Legacy. Kristin believes, “By the grace of the Lord, my purpose is to walk with families as their students grow to become creative, resourceful, critical thinkers who love the Lord and are positioned to act on His call.” Kristin has been married for over 20 years and has four children ages 14-20.

Steve Larson was Legacy’s Interim President during the 2012-13 school year and is a Financial Consultant with Thrivent Financial, and has been for the past 22 years.

“I love Legacy Christian Academy and I am so thankful for the impact LCA has had in the lives of our two children and our family as a whole. The need to teach students critical thinking skills within the context of a biblical worldview is one of the most important reasons for the existence of Legacy Christian Academy. The culture is advancing a worldview that is in direct conflict with the truth of God’s word. At Legacy, we strive to teach our students to know how to fully stand on the truth of God’s word, but to do so in a way that is filled with grace. Standing on the God’s truth cannot diminish God’s grace; and God’s grace cannot diminish God’s truth. We are called to teach students to be ambassadors of Jesus Christ who was full of grace and truth. It is for these reasons I believe Legacy needs to grow and thrive and why I am grateful to serve on the Board.”

Steve’s avocation for many years has been as hockey coach at many levels. Steve coached at Bethel University from 1982-1991. He was the boy’s coach at Blaine High School from 1995-2000 and he was the Assistant Coach with the Blaine girls team for four years after that. Steve was the founding Head Coach for the Lions Hockey program in 2007 and stepped down after 10 years leading that program in 2017.

Jessica is a seasoned teacher with ten years under her belt as a first grade teacher in the Anoka Hennepin School District. Now, she is excited to call Legacy home as a Kindergarten Teacher! She explains, “I have felt God’s calling on my heart to be a teacher for as long as I can remember.  Recently, God’s calling has led me to a different school and has opened the doors wide open for our family to make this transition to Legacy!  I am so excited to walk alongside students, families, and other staff as we equip minds and disciple hearts.” Jessica and her husband, David, have been married for twelve years and have two daughters in 6th grade and 3rd grade. They love to experience worship together as a family, go on hikes, and hang out with their goldendoodle Toby! In addition to her years as a teacher, Jessica used to own a kickboxing studio and is also a certified personal trainer!

Since 2012, Paul has been blessing the hallways, classrooms, and workspaces with his genuineness and leadership.  A Pastor educated at Bethany Global University, Paul’s mission in life is to build up every person he meets by helping them reach their goals in achieving a well rounded life.

Paul and his wife Juanita, are blessed to be parents to three grown children and grandparents to four grandchildren.

Rebecca holds a BA in Psychology and an MA in Counseling Psychology from the University of MN Duluth. She has been called by God to help students and has been doing so as a Guidance Counselor at LCA since 2005, helping students and families with post-secondary planning.

Rebecca loves working with and supporting families and students. Her heart is to see each student know God, know themselves and be prepared for life after high school.

Allyson joined the Legacy family after obtaining her BS in psychology undergraduate degree from the University of Northwestern, St. Paul and then completing her masters of science in school counseling from Lee University. She is thrilled to be the K-4 Student Life Coordinator and Counselor here at Legacy. 

Allyson loves combining her passions of education, psychology, and children into one role.  She also understands the importance of such a role especially at a Christian school because she grew up in a Christian school that did not have a school counselor, She is grateful and excited for the opportunity to provide that support and guidance to the elementary students at LCA. 

She has been married to her husband, Tom, since 2014, and they have two children, Elaina and William. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, watching Disney movies, and exercising.

Libby received her original elementary education degree from Cornerstone University and her masters in educational leadership from St. Mary’s University, and with her credentials, Libby has had the opportunity to present at both the Heartland Educators Conference and the Deeper Learning Conference. Libby and her husband, Eamonn, are expecting their first child in November of 2023.

As a Christian educator, Libby’s conviction is derived from her belief that all individuals are created in the image of God. This image gives honor and dignity to all persons and is her motivation toward helping steward individuals toward excellence holistically through their academic, spiritual, emotional, and physical selves. Libby seeks to empower and shepherd every student to follow God’s will and design in all aspects of life.

Todd holds both a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Education, attending Crown College and St. Mary’s University after graduating from Meadow Creek Christian School, LCA’s predecessor. He has been teaching, coaching, and advising students since his hire in 1996, and in 2001 led the boys soccer team to a 4th place state tournament finish!  

Beyond the PE classroom and the coaching field, Todd has a love of rock climbing and heads up the rock climbing club at school.He also runs the ski/snowboard club. With four children of his own, Todd and his wife Stacy (’91) are always on some kind of adventure! Todd also owns and operates a seal coating business during the summer months.

“The Lord has blessed me with the ability to work with children of all ages. I have a desire for students to be active and have fun doing it! I love the wonderful connections that the elementary students can make with the high school students at LCA.”

A member of our teaching staff since 2011, Lisa holds a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from St. Cloud State University and a Master’s in Literacy Instruction from St. Mary’s University.

“I love working with children. They make me laugh and enjoy life. I try to make learning fun and meaningful for students. It is important for them to understand why they are learning what they are learning and how everything connects to God’s Word. I can’t imagine doing anything else. I love my job!”

Since his hire at LCA in 2008, Ben has been making a big impression on the lives of students teaching Bible, Economics and advising in Student Council.

A lifelong learner and libertarian, Ben hopes to continue his own education beyond his Bachelor’s in Christian Studies from North Greenville and his Master’s in Christian Thought from Bethel Seminary to include degrees in Bioethics and Philosophy of Religion.

At LCA Ben feels “empowered to teach the best way I see fit in order to educate and equip my students to know, believe, explain, and defend the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”

Bekka holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Museum Studies and French and a Master’s Degree in American Studies, both from Baylor University. She worked in museums before becoming a stay-at-home mom.

She and her husband, Kendall, have three children, one a recent LCA graduate and two who currently attend Legacy. After serving as a parent volunteer and LPA member, Bekka began working as a lunch/recess supervisor and aftercare assistant.  he enjoys her current role in the school kitchen serving the students and staff.

Brianna joins the Legacy community with an undergraduate degree in elementary education and an emphasis in social studies and mathematics from the University of Northwestern and a masters of education in secondary education from Grand Canyon University. Brianna said ‘yes’ to working at Legacy because she values Christian education as “all that we know comes from Christ and it is impossible to separate the two and teach without Christ at the center.” Brianna is also familiar with the Legacy community through friends that demonstrated the direct impact Legacy has had on their personal relationships with God. She is excited to join the middle school team because it is a crucial stage in a child’s life where they are looking for their identity that cannot be found apart from Christ.

Jake has walked through the halls of LCA in every pair of shoes possible (student, teacher, coach, chaplain, parent, board member, principal, and Head of School) so when he says that “LCA and its community is special because it is investing personally in each student in a way that helps them know and love God and be prepared to live life and influence culture,” you can trust he knows what he’s talking about.

When Jake graduated from MCCS in 1998 he headed to the University of Northwestern and attained undergraduate degrees in Social Studies Education and Bible before securing a Masters in Theological Studies. He has traveled to over 25 different countries leading mission trips, discipleship trips, or biblical history trips for high school students. In 2014 and 2015 he was honored by receiving the Anoka County Shopper Reader’s Choice “Best Principal of the Year” and in 2023 he received the MinnDependent Leadership Award which honors the best school leaders in private education in the state of Minnesota.

“I exist to intentionally and passionately know and love God and help others do the same. I strive to live out and accomplish (what I believe to be) the three “greats” in life: The Greatest Accomplishment: To know and love God. The Greatest Lifestyle: To intentionally and passionately live like Christ. The Greatest Legacy: To live in light of eternity. It is an honor to partner with parents in their journey to educate and disciple their children.”

Dan holds a BA in History and Secondary Education from Bethel University where he also earned his Master’s degree. A teacher of World History at LCA since 1995, Dan indicates that “God gave me a passion for teaching and inspiring students to be what God has created them to be.”

When not in the classroom you’ll most likely see Dan with his wife Ruth and at least one of his four children, who attend or graduated from LCA. The exception is spring time in Minnesota where you’ll find him out on the golf course coaching the four-time state championship Lions Girls Golf team.

“Legacy has provided me with the opportunity to not only challenge my students intellectually, but also spiritually. I enjoy being able to speak the Truth about God’s unconditional love to students during very formative years.”

Danielle joined the Business Office at LCA in 2015.  She also serves as the Treasurer for the LPA.  She holds an AAS degree in Accounting & Business Administration from MN School of Business. Danielle and her husband, Jim, reside in Coon Rapids. Together they have one daughter, Hailey, currently enrolled at LCA and enjoy spending time as a family with Jim’s two older children, Ashley and Brandon, along with their grandchildren. 

Danielle shares that “Psalm 24:21, ‘The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it. The world and all it’s people belong to him.’ is a great reminder to her that who we are, what we do, and what we have all belong to the Lord.”

Emily Nelson has loved Legacy Christian Academy since she first began working in PreK in 2014. She loved being able to share the love of Jesus with her students and praying over and with each family. 

God brought Emily and her husband to North Dakota before bringing them back to Minnesota. Emily has taught at a variety of levels with her degree in elementary education K-6 with an emphasis in social studies 5-8 and a minor in biblical studies from North Central University. She has taught PreK, Kindergarten, as well as 1st grade and was an Academic/Assessment Coordinator. She loves expanding on 1st grade students’ knowledge and seeing the “light bulb moments.” Her classroom is warm and welcoming, a place to be silly, have fun, make mistakes and learn.

Her husband and three boys live in Coon Rapids and enjoy camping, swimming, board games, hockey, and trying new things together.

Legacy is excited to welcome Alison and her wealth of experience as a Kindergarten Teacher. She received both her BS and MA in elementary education from the University of Minnesota and has her LETRS Certification from Lexia in the Science of Reading Units 1-4. She has spent the last 11 years at Little Canada Elementary- Spanish Dual Language Immersion School. She enjoyed teaching students to become bilingual and biliterate from a multicultural lens. God has given her a passion and a gift for teaching, and she is excited to disciple students for Christ-like living. 

Alison and her husband, Jeremy, have three boys and many fish. They enjoy being outdoors, mini golfing, swimming, and traveling together.

Alison says, “I said yes to Legacy because I see all of the attributes that I grew up knowing in my education embodied at Legacy. I said yes because God had created a path for me to marry my gift of teaching with my passion for Jesus. I said yes because I get to watch my children grow up with teachers who love the Lord and love them.”

Lorie has been teaching young hearts since she graduated from University of Northwestern with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education in 1987. The Lord led her immediately to LCA (Meadow Creek Christian School) where she taught 3rd grade until she moved to Rapid City with her husband John in 1993. She spent a few years in a 4th grade classroom there and then some time at home with her three children before the family moved back to Andover in 2007 and she resumed teaching at LCA, this time as a 4th grade teacher.

John and Lorie feel blessed that all three of their children (Anna ‘15, Josh ‘17, and Christina ‘19) are growing up as members of the LCA family, making lifelong friends, all with a biblical worldview.

Jen is passionate about and deeply committed to the mission of Christian education. She has completed her coursework and is finishing her dissertation for her Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership at Bethel University, holds an M.A. in Christian Leadership from Sioux Falls Seminary, and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Sioux Falls.

Jen brings a wealth of experience in higher education, public affairs, and politics. In leadership roles at Bethel University, she served in online education, non-traditional student enrollment, and corporate relations. Jen is currently the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Crown College and previously worked as Chief of Staff for Weber Johnson Public Affairs.  She brings valuable expertise in legislation and public policy, including knowledge of lobbying and the legislative process. In her most recent role at North Central University, Jen served as Executive Director for Online Education.

Jen and her husband, Harry, along with their three children Kaisa, Nathanael, and Jude, have been members of the Legacy community since 2012.

Joel holds a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from University of Northwestern and a Master’s in Educational Administration from St. Mary’s. Prior to joining the LCA Administration in 2012, he taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade in the White Bear Lake School District for 10 years, earning Teacher of the Year Finalist honors 2009-2011. As the Elementary Principal at LCA, it is Joel’s passion to help students and families experience learning surrounded by the wisdom and love that only comes from Jesus Christ.

Joel’s family of girls, wife Mandy and four daughters, Salomae, Brielle, Elliana and Audrey, receives the honor of selecting from over 250 board games in Joel’s collection on family game night.

Crista is a graduate of Meadow Creek/Legacy. She has a BA in Elementary Education from Bethel University. She previously taught for 6 years in the Anoka Hennepin School District. Crista then spent time at home raising her 3 children. She came back to education as a Substitute Teacher at Legacy for 2 years before becoming the Administrative Assistant (K-6).

Crista and her husband John have 3 children who are students at LCA, Graham, and twin girls Aubrey and Elyse. Crista enjoys being outdoors, going on walks, playing games, cooking, and spending time with family.

Ashley holds a Bachelor of Science in Ministry from the University of Northwestern, St. Paul. Her administrative strengths come from her love of organizing, scheduling, and helping others.

Ashley and her husband Matt have two daughters and a dog named Mumford.  They love biking, hiking, adventures, and playing games together.

Leslie had the privilege of subbing K-12 at Legacy and now teaches high school math. Her original degree was in education from Dordt College in Iowa. She is grateful to God for giving her a love of teaching and influencing children. She enjoys being in the classroom after spending the past 16 years at home with her kids: Gavin, Cecily, Henry, and Wyatt. Prior to those sixteen years of raising a family from home with her husband, Michael, Leslie taught at Trinity Christian School in Omaha, Nebraska; Calvin Christian School; Lakeview Christian Academy; and Maranatha Christian Academy.

Leslie loves the LCA community! God clearly led her family here, and she has loved getting to know the community – first as a parent, then as a substitute teacher, and now as staff! She is thankful to be able to teach in the same school where her children are students.

Maddy earned her degree in special education from Augsburg University and has since acquired an additional developmental disabilities license from Bethel University. Maddy is pursuing final certification as an Orton-Gillingham reading tutor. Here at Legacy, Maddy is a PreK teacher.

Madeline and her husband, Ben, are expecting their second baby this Winter. In her free time, Maddy aspires to be an ambitious home project DIY-er.

I teach young children because they have great joy in learning and it gives me a clearer picture of how God sees and relates to us. I seek to do everything to the glory of God!

Jason holds an undergraduate degree with emphasis on Math and Bible from University of Northwestern – St. Paul and a Masters in Education from St. Mary’s University. He joins the Legacy staff after committing the last 16 years to the students of Champlin Park High School where he taught International Baccalaureate math and coached Math League!

In addition to his passion for teaching and tutoring in math, Jason is also committed to discipleship. He has not only been leading small groups at Constance Free Church for the past 20 years, but also helped create a discipleship/leadership team and wrote student devotionals!

Purpose Statement: “I have a passion for math and, as I teach, I want my students to gain that same passion by seeing how the math they are learning applies to real-life and for them to see that math can actually be enjoyable to learn.”

Peyton is a recent graduate from Bethel University with a degree in K-6 Elementary Education. She is excited for the school year to be in full swing, and she will be teaching middle school English, History, and Bible – a little of everything! She is passionate about working with the middle school age and engaging with students through literature. For her, Legacy was an easy yes because of the welcoming and loving community. Her future aspirations are to be more forgiving, more loving, and a better disciple of Jesus every single day. 

Peyton is the oldest of four siblings, and her favorite vacation includes a tent and a morning fire.

In 2008, Teri joined the Business Office staff at Legacy and is often the person you’ll talk to first about tuition payments. She loves working with the families of Legacy and enjoys seeing the kids grow up to make their faith their own. She feels blessed by the leadership at Legacy and says “There is not a day that goes by that I would want to be working anywhere else.”

After 4 years teaching in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, former Legacy graduate, Maddie Pierro ‘12 came back into the den to teach first 3rd grade and now the 5th and 6th grade middle school classes! With a degree in elementary education and special education from University of Northwestern – St. Paul, Maddie is looking forward to having the opportunity to form deeper and more meaningful relationships with students, being able to come alongside them as they transition to middle school, and helping them grow their interest and love for reading and language arts. 

Maddie’s decision to become a teacher was influenced by the caring teachers she encountered during her time at Legacy. She loves working with students and building relationships. She considers it a great honor to shape the next generation of leaders and instill in them strong Christian values.

Fun fact: If you don’t see Maddie in her classroom your next stop might be the business office where her Mom, Teri Pierro, has been faithfully serving Legacy families for 12 years!

John obtained a degree in Parks & Recreation from the University of MN hoping to do something working with youth, but he ended up working in maintenance after college and realized how much he loved working with his hands and fixing things. Legacy is thrilled to welcome John to the role of Assistant Facilities Director where he feels like he gets to merge these two career paths, and he is excited to see what God has in store for him at Legacy. Although John is new to working at Legacy, he is no stranger to the Legacy community. John and his wife Tawnee have three daughters that attend Legacy!

John has over 15 years of director experience in facilities maintenance at a variety of local assisted living facilities. He is a natural problem solver with high attention to detail and believes that his work is his ministry. He is excited to be a part of a community serving and encouraging students in their walk with Jesus.

Sara received both her undergraduate in elementary education and MA in education from St. Mary’s University in Minnesota, and she taught 5th grade at McKinley Elementary for 18 years. Now she comes to Legacy ready to teach our 5th and 6th grade math classes! She is excited to impact students’ lives and build relationships that extend beyond the classroom and into the future. 

Sara is excited to teach at a school that is Christ-centered and looks forward to being a part of the LCA community. Sara and her husband, Ryan, live in Andover with their three children: Daisy, Archer, and Millie. She is also proud to admit that she has been skydiving, not once, but twice in her lifetime!

Katelyn is no stranger to the Guest Relations Manager & Attendance role at Legacy. Her smiling face was seen for a whole semester as she held a long term sub role for this position during the 2023-24 school year. Now, she is officially hired and ready to make the front desk her home on Thursdays and Fridays every single week! In the past Katelyn has also worked as a health service secretary at Hassan Elementary in Rogers, MN and is currently the Childwatch Lead and primary Social Media Content Creator for Burn Boot Camp. She is also a volunteer in many areas including campus administrative support, Kids Care Team member, and Middle School Small Group Leader at Eagle Brook Church, Anoka. At the start of her career, Katelyn graduated from Crown College with a double major in General and Christian Studies with double minors in Psychology and Counseling. 

Today, she is raising her two children, Logan and Luke alongside her husband, Colin. The fifth member of their family is a 6 pound furball named Louie.

When explaining her Legacy experience, Katelyn shares, “I have been SO impressed with the Legacy Community (students/staff/faculty/families)  and the school’s mission to equip the mind and disciple the heart of each and every student for Christ-like living. Legacy has felt like HOME for my family and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the “Legacy” moving forward.”

Dr. Alan Pue serves as President of The Barnabas Group, Inc. In that capacity he draws on over fifty years of experience of working in and with faith-based schools to assist schools in the areas of strategic/scenario planning, mission clarification/delivery, and governance. He is the author of three books, Rethinking Sustainability: A Strategic Finance Guide for Christian Schools, Rethinking Strategic Planning for Christian Schools, and Rethinking Discipleship: Why Christian Schooling Matters, along with numerous articles and book reviews. Alan and his wife Linda have two children, Amy and Ryan and seven lively granddaughters and live in beautiful Castle Pines, CO.

Carrie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the College of St. Scholastica and a Bachelor’s in   Psychology from The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She has worked as a Registered Nurse at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview for 11 years on a medical/surgical floor. She continues to work casual hours at the U of M while sharing the School Nurse role at Legacy.

Her life passion is to care for others, especially children. She enjoys establishing individual relationships with others to know them on a personal level to nurture their wellness. She is excited to work with students and staff to ensure their health, encourage their faith, and be uplifted by people who go above and beyond to care for and educate students in a Christ-centered environment!

Her husband Scott and their two boys enjoy spending time up north at the cabin water skiing, tubing, and swimming.  We enjoy entertaining family, playing outdoor games, and any type of card game! She loves dancing, all types including polka, ballet, and salsa are three of my favorites!

Lori has been sharing God’s promises and love with MCCS/LCA students since 2007. She enjoys “working with kids of all ages and encouraging them to grow deeper in their faith.”  Lori has both the challenge and blessing of supervising LCA students during their down time of lunch and after school as the Adventures 4 Kids Director.

She says that “watching and experiencing God’s work and love through the students, administration, and staff  is what makes LCA special” and why she and her husband chose to have both their sons attend LCA from PreK through graduation.

Calleen joins the LCA team with a degree in Elementary Education from Crown College with a pre-primary endorsement. Before her time here, Calleen taught first grade at Athlos Leadership Academy in Brooklyn Park and Kindergarten at N-O-W Elementary School in Ontario, Wisconsin. 

She is excited to work in a place that honors God and partner with parents to help their children succeed. “I teach because, as Christians, we are called to make disciples. I make it my mission to disciple these little minds as I teach them about the world that God created.”

In her free time, Calleen loves cooking, gardening, and traveling with her husband, Adam, an LCA alumni! Their goal is to visit all 50 states in their first 5 years of marriage.

Composing music since the age of 6, Rolly’s been putting his talents to use in furthering God’s kingdom at MCCS/LCA since 1992. He holds a BS in Music Education from Bethel University and is pursuing a Master’s in Music & Worship from Liberty University online.

Rolly and his wife Leah have nine children, of which four have graduated from MCCS/LCA and five are currently attending. A household of volleyball players, Rolly had the unique opportunity to coach alongside his wife and two of his daughters when he was hired as Head Volleyball Coach in the Fall of 2015 (his second time at the helm of the Saints/Lions program).

It’s not by accident that Rolly has invested so deeply at Legacy. He states, “The environment (at LCA) provides a great opportunity for students and faculty alike to grow in their faith, to be challenged, and to be encouraged. Legacy provides an atmosphere that brings awareness to who Jesus is – ever present in our lives.”

Evan enjoys archery hunting. He spends many hours practicing to get ready for the season. If you practice enough, you can have confidence your arrow you will hit the target when it is time to let it go. The short time you have with your children are the practice shots you take in preparation for the day you need to release them towards the target of God’s will for their life. Evan feels that Christian education plays a critical role in helping prepare children for kingdom living.

Evan and his wife Leslie are thrilled to have had all four of their children attend Legacy since preschool.  Legacy staff and community has made their kids love school. The mentorship and caring of teachers have made a safe environment for his kids and helped to further develop their character. His oldest daughter graduated in 2021, with another graduating the spring of 2023.  While he misses them and is sometimes sad to see them go, he is happy to see the trajectory that Legacy has helped send them on.

“I attended private Christian school from K-12, and I can say that I am jealous of my kids, because I did not have the same experience that I have seen Legacy create for my children.  I have seen the faculty, staff, and parents engage intentionally with each of my children, and I have seen such incredible academic, but more importantly, spiritual growth in each one of them.  I am honored to be a part of Legacy’s board and I intend to serve in order to continue to maintain the standards that have made my family’s experience so great.”

Chris is a parent to three MCCS/LCA Graduates, and feels grateful that her kiddos are wonderful adults in large part to the dedication that Legacy teachers have invested into her own children. She feels privileged to be the first person to greet students, parents and guests alike. Having celebrated her 10 year anniversary, and with a love for all things organized and efficient, she enjoys both the administrative and personal side of her job. After receiving her BA from North Central College (Naperville, IL) in Psychology and English, she also received her certification as a Director of Christian Education from Concordia University, St. Paul, MN. 

Chris has a love for all God’s creatures on land, sea and air, which her husband of 38 years can attest to. If you want to learn about Monarch butterflies especially, just ask!

Hannah comes to Legacy as a Lunch/Recess Supervisor and LCA Cafe Barista with an associates degree in applied science from Anoka Ramsey. Her husband, Jon, is a proud alumni, and together they are raising two sweet boys. 

Hannah believes her purpose is to be obedient to what she believes Jesus is telling her to do and the call He has put on her life. It is her joy to love on the kids at Legacy! Hannah’s oldest son ​ is a student at LCA and loved the idea of mommy working at his school and seeing her throughout the day. She looks forward to enjoying these special moments with him while also working in an environment where it is so easy to go to work every day!

Peggy and her husband, Dave, have been married 35 years. In addition to their two adult children, they have a beloved Golden Retriever, Summer. They are part of a new church plant, Transform Church, in Andover. Peggy has served on both the education finance and policy committees in the legislature.

Since graduating from Beebe School of Nursing in Lewes, Delaware in 1995, Julie devoted her life’s work to the calling placed on her heart at the age of 10, to passionately serve God by serving others and helping to meet their physical needs as a Registered Nurse.

Julie followed that call until 2021, when God opened the door and gave her a new calling: to work as Executive Assistant to the Head of School at Legacy Christian Academy, a school both of her children graduated from, Haley in 2017 and Carson in 2020 and where she worked for a short time when their family moved to Minnesota in 2008.

Julie, and her husband Jason, make their home in Blaine and attend the Blaine campus of Eagle Brook Church.

Carla has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Bethel University and previously taught 1st grade at New Life Academy and Christian Life School. When she came to Legacy, she taught 4th grade, but she is excited to return to her favorite age level: 1st grade. 

Carla loves teaching at a place where she can share what the Lord is doing in her life with her students and encourage them to grow more in their knowledge of the Lord.  She incorporates hands-on learning, songs, actions, movement, and projects into her teaching knowing that students have different learning styles.  She communicates that it is okay to make mistakes and that she is there to help her students when things get tricky. Carla aims to make learning come alive for students and make school a fun place to be every day. She shares, “We truly become a classroom family and I love the bond that is formed each year as a class.”

Carla enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time at the cabin!

A proud alumni, class of 2003, Dan now works full time for Legacy as the new Assistant AD and Activities Coordinator. He comes to LCA after leading at Mounds View High School as their Assistant AD for 12 years. Now that he’s back ‘home,’ Dan is excited to have the opportunity to work at a Christian school that shares his same values and beliefs. He is also passionate about the mission of this school and commitment to minister to others.   

Dan and his wife Gretchen are familiar with LCA’s athletics and activities as they have three of their own kids attending Legacy, and just like his kids, Dan loves watching and playing sports as well as coaching the Baseball team!

Dan believes his mission is to use the talents and abilities that God has given him to help create an atmosphere that provides a positive experience for all students.

Erin is a Bethel University graduate, with BA degrees in K-12 Spanish Education and K-6 Elementary Education. She has taught in a variety of educational environments, and lived in Segovia, Spain! She shared, “I believe that learning about other languages and cultures helps us understand the world and its people so much better, and to love others you must understand them.” Erin has loved being able to teach, lead, and disciple according to scripture and the hand of God she has experienced in her life. Her favorite part of teaching is the strong relationships with students she gets to build and the ability to talk about their lives and provide Biblical insight and perspective to the problems they may be facing. Erin also is the choreographer for Legacy musicals and looks forward to helping each student grow and discover their unique gifts and talents each musical season!

Outside of teaching, Erin spends a lot of time with her church, friends, family, and puppy. She loves playing board games, eating delicious food from around the world, and traveling with her husband. She’s been to 7 countries and has eyes on many more in the future! Erin is also an avid Lindy hopper (swing dance) and loves to teach others to dance!

Josh holds an elementary education degree from Bethel University and a graduate degree in curriculum and instruction from St. Mary’s University. Because of Josh’s passion for students, he has decided to shift from teaching middle school math to the Middle School Student Life Coordinator and Bible teacher. 

In this new role, he looks forward to the chance to use the gifts God has given me to help students and staff grow in what God has called them to do and be at Legacy Christian Academy.

Stacey holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Winona State University, but found a home as LCA’s Media Center Director in 2006 and is affectionately known as Mrs. S by the students she reads to.

Stacey credits LCA for teaching her family, husband Eric and daughters Mari and Lindsey, how to see the world through a biblical worldview.

Stacey has a love for the Minnesota State Fair and Anoka County Fair and can claim award winning danish cakes, cookies, and fudge.

Michlyn is thrilled to join the 3rd grade teaching team and community for the 2024-25 school year! She was previously a 5th grade and 3rd grade teacher in Apple Valley as well as a 2nd grade teacher in Otsego. Michlyn loves the 3rd grade stage as this was the year she knew she wanted to be a teacher! Michlyn holds two degrees in elementary education and theological studies from the University of Northwestern – St. Paul. Michlyn and her husband, Derek, have been married for six years and have two dogs.

Mr. Nate Temp is an MCCS/LCA alumni who holds a BA in History from the University of Northwestern St. Paul and earned a Masters of Teaching through St. Mary’s University in 2021.  He first re-engaged with Legacy by helping coach the Clay Target: Trap Shooting team and since the fall of 2020 has been working as a teacher here at Legacy.

Nate seeks to honor God and love people with the way he lives and interacts in the world. “There are two things that will last forever in this world – God’s Word and people. I love working in a place where I can invest in both.”

He lives in East Bethel, MN with his wife. They both enjoy traveling, especially road trips, hiking, playing games, watching movies, and spending time with friends and family. He looks forward to being able to give back to a school that has done so much for the community around it.

Jesse’s career path has taken him from MN, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Crown College, to Texas, Taiwan & Colorado! Through all these experiences, Jesse was always in the role of instructor in some capacity. His breadth of experience continued once he joined the Legacy family teaching theatre, technology, music, and middle school English. However, he is thrilled to have just one role at LCA as the High School English Teacher.

I believe LCA has just that sort of community, and I’m thrilled to be able to join it!”

One of our familiar faces, Nicole Welna, is excited to join the PreK team as a 2-Day PreK Teacher. Nicole’s four children attend Legacy, and prior to this new role, Nicole was a favorite sub, and she worked in the lunchroom. She originally received an elementary education/communications arts & literature degree from the University of MN-Duluth and taught in the Forest Lake School District as a Kindergarten teacher before having the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mom. 

Nicole has loved her time at Legacy so far, and she is excited to join the teaching staff. She looks forward to partnering with parents throughout the year to encourage her students to grow in their social, emotional, and cognitive development. 

Life Verse: Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Mike joined the LCA staff in 2014 after spending 13 years in a similar role at Minnehaha Academy. He loves that LCA is a unique environment that places a priority on Christ-centered relationships.

His educational path includes a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Bethel College, a Master’s in Theology from Bethel Seminary, a Master’s in Information Media/Instructional Technology from St. Cloud State University, and an Associates in Network Administration from Hennepin Technical College. Mike states, “I love to work with both students and staff in the area of technology. For many people, there seems to be some anxiety that is always associated with it, and I like to figure out ways to take that away.”

Mike and his wife Meredith have a son, Jonah, and a puppy, Charlie.

After growing up in Wisconsin, Jodi attended Bethel University for both her undergraduate degree and her Master’s in Special Education. She is currently finishing her Doctorate of Education with an emphasis on providing support for youth who have experienced foster care. 

Jodi taught in the Mounds View School District for a decade and is an active advocate for churches working to create space and support for those impacted by visible and invisible disabilities. She is excited to be part of the Legacy community and longs to help every student, staff, and family member of LCA to be seen and to know they are valued beyond measure. 

Jodi and her husband, Bart, have two grown children: a daughter, Lauren, and her husband, Jake, and a son, also named Jake. When they are not cheering for MN sports teams (a discouraging hobby), they are spending time outside walking, fishing, and hanging out at their tiny house in northern MN.

Her life verse is 1 Peter 4:10-11, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone served, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.“

Kristin currently teaches 3-Day PreK at Legacy!  She graduated from the University of Northwestern and Crown College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Christian Ministries and K-6 Elementary Education with a PrePrimary/ PreK Emphasis.  Growing up in the area, she always hoped to teach at Meadow Creek/ Legacy. She was overflowing with joy when she was offered the PreK teaching position in 2012 after student teaching 4th grade here. This will be her 18th year teaching Christian PreK and it will be her 12th year teaching it at Legacy. 

In 2014, she partnered with her colleague, Lynda Domino, and they were awarded a Grant for Teachers Needs from the Legacy Parent Association which allowed the PreK classroom to get a new playhouse for imaginative play. Also, during the years when she was teaching, the PreK program at Legacy was voted “Best Preschool in Anoka County” multiple years in a row!!

Kristin and her husband, Christian, share their love of Christ not only with the young families at LCA, but also with their own young family of four beautiful daughters. 

“Legacy truly feels like a second family to us! I pray that your child and your family truly know and experience this unconditional love; and that the students, families and staff will all look to the God who gives this everlasting, never-ending love!  May we share together in the truth that Jesus died on the cross to take away all of our sins, that He rose again/came back to life, that He is alive now, and that He is wanting us to live here on earth and in heaven with Him forever!! I always love sharing this gospel truth with the precious little ones in my class, and I never get tired of watching their little faces light up with true joy and hope! It’s great news to know that His grace, His forgiveness and His love is extended to each one of us as we trust Him as our Lord and Savior! SO thankful that we can celebrate and praise our Savior Jesus together freely at Legacy!”

Kim graduated from Crown College with her Elementary Teaching Degree and completed her Masters in Reading and Curriculum Instruction from Concordia College. She has been on staff at LCA since 2008 and having three children of her own, she understands how important children are to their own families and wants to partner with parents so that each student will learn and thrive in her classroom!

Sarah joins the Legacy community with a wealth of experience. With an undergraduate degree in elementary education from Bethel University and a graduate degree in Teaching and Learning from Saint Mary’s University, Sarah has previously taught in the Anoka Hennepin, Centennial, and Fridley school districts. Sarah will be teaching 1st grade at Legacy, and she shares, “After working in various public schools for the past 9 years, being able to teach AND share Jesus at Legacy is a dream. My own children will also be attending Legacy and I can’t wait to start my journey with them at Legacy too!”

Dennis comes to Legacy with a deep-seated passion for Christian education.  He joins the staff at Legacy after first serving on the School Board for three years. He holds an undergraduate degree from Bethel University in Biblical and Theological Studies and a Master’s degree from St. Mary’s University in Counseling Psychology. Prior to Legacy Dennis worked in Student Development at Bethel University, private practice as a Financial Advisor and as a Real Estate Investor.

As Advancement Director, Dennis is charged with developing, managing, and administering Legacy’s philanthropic initiatives. With his long-term and strategic perspective on kingdom values, personal development, finance, and stewardship Dennis looks forward to advancing Legacy Christian Academy and the Kingdom of God both today and for the next generation.

Dennis and his wife Faith have two children at Legacy. In their spare time, they enjoy being in nature and engaging in a wide array of outdoor activities. When not at school you will find them playing together as a family.
