For the past twelve years, Legacy middle school students have traveled to an environmental camp. This is now the second year that 5th grade students have stayed at Camp Forest Springs in Westboro, Wisconsin, a distinctly biblically-centered environmental camp.
During this trip that 5th grade students had the opportunity to build strong relationships with their peers. They experienced obstacles in a challenge course, problem-solving activities, and free time to play, explore, and wonder together about the world God has created and how to collaborate well together.
Students also participated in environmental lessons completely centered on Christ. They took a bog walk and learned about the intricate design of the pitcher plant with a clear explanation about the intelligent design of our Creator. Students thought about science biblically in a setting completely unhindered by the secular message about science and nature.
There were almost thirty parent chaperones as well, walking alongside their children as they learned and explored God’s creation together. This is one of many ways that Legacy provides unique opportunities to partner with parents in hands-on learning environments.
Throughout the camp, students were called up to the standard that Legacy’s middle school stands on: Our students walk “…worthy of the manner in which you’ve been called, with all humility…” (Ephesians 4:1-2). Camp Forest Springs provided an authentic opportunity for parents and students to practice living out this call in their own lives.
