Legacy Girls Basketball has an exciting future with a strong core of young players who have achieved 40 wins in our first two years of AA competition. With growing numbers at the middle school and youth levels, it is safe to say there is a lot of excitement in the program! Legacy’s Athletic Department was committed to finding a coach who would continue to build the program while being deeply committed to discipleship. We are excited to announce Alexandra Elrod has been hired as the Legacy Head Girls Basketball Coach!

Coach Elrod served as the Head Coach at Southwest Christian in Chaska the last two seasons. Prior to her time as the Head Coach, Alex served in assistant roles at the University of Northwestern – St. Paul and Southwest Christian. She has additional head coach experience in both the Minnesota Stars and Minnesota Crossfire AAU programs as a 17U and 16U coach. Alexandra was an All MIAC player during her time at Hamline University before transferring and finishing her Masters Degree at the University of Northwestern – St. Paul where she received All UMAC honors.

“Alex immediately impressed our interview committee with her passion for discipling young women. Coming from Southwest Christian, we knew she had operated under the same Coaching for Transformation framework we utilize in the Legacy Athletic Department. She will come into this program with a wealth of experience on the court and an intentional process to disciple her players,” says Athletic Director, Nathan Bellefeuille. “The girls are gaining a high-energy leader who is devoted to Jesus, committed to excellence, and who will challenge and encourage all of the players in the program. We believe in her vision for our youth programs and that she will continue to grow and build excitement around the Legacy Girls Basketball program.”

Legacy’s mission and incredible administration and athletic department staff is what drew me in with their commitment to Christ, the focus on transformational coaching, and the desire to build programs that develop people, not just players. As a coach, I want to make an eternal impact, and I believe Legacy is a place where that kind of purpose-driven leadership is encouraged and supported. It’s a community I want to grow with, and I’m honored to be part of it,” says Coach Elrod. “Players can expect a culture that’s intense, joyful, and deeply rooted in purpose. We’ll compete hard, pursue excellence every day, and do it together, with energy, grit, and gratitude. The gym will be a place where you are challenged and encouraged and where effort and attitude matter just as much as skill. This summer, we’ll begin laying the foundation by getting in the gym, competing together, building trust, and starting to shape who we want to become as a team. Player development will be intentional and individualized, and we’ll focus on both physical growth and spiritual formation. We’ll get after it, but we’ll have fun doing it.”

Alexandra has been married to her husband, Clay, for 6 years and are expecting their first child in May. Coach Elrod will be doing a meet and greet on Friday, April 25 at 11:00 am in the Sport Center Commons.
